The Hanged Man … and Solomon
May 14, 2008
By Dove, www.TarotwithLove.com I was just about to write this post on the Hanged Man (Tarot) stuff I’ve been getting (spurred by an email in my box this morning on the Hanged Man), and then got a call from someone named “Solomon.” So we’ll throw that in the mix as well ;) Solomon, I know he’s one of those wise guys, lol, but in googling the symbolism of it, I found that this name means “peace.” :) Okay, yep, been getting that message a lot lately.
But the Hanged Man message has really been coming strong since Monday. Seems like every license plate number I noticed was totalling to 12, was seeing 12 everywhere, which is the number on the Hanged Man card. Then I saw a really cute, and encouraging, ”Hanged Man” at a thrift store I was browsing that day. It was an old mug on a shelf among other such odd “treasures” (heh). It said “Hang in there.” :) Since I was already feeling like it was all about a need to have patience, that little “Hang in there” brought a smile. Much better than a need for sacrifice (to let something go), that this symbol can often represent. That’s not to say that both meanings can’t apply at the same time. And in fact it’s likely that both are on point for me right now. That old King of Cups continues to haunt me — with him and the Hanged Man, it’s about a need to let go of old patterns. Such a challenge that is for all of us…but as I’ve advised others recently, we really need to have patience with ourselves in this difficult process of “letting go.” *sigh* Solomon, peace, yep.
Oh, another “Hanged Man” I saw yesterday — on my blog surfing page. A picture of a bird (me?) upside down (a real bird) trapped in a fence. That’s a perfect image for the Hanged Man, and how “lovely” for the Universe to make the reversed and trapped one a bird :) I didn’t like seeing the bird like that, unnerving. Hmmm, so vulnerable, unable to move, no control… All it can do is have patience until it is set free, all the while seeing things from a different perspective (another Hanged Man meaning), as it hangs upside down. There’s nothing else it can do in this moment.
The email I got this morning on the Hanged Man references this Tarot card as “Tough Decisions.” Yeah, that’s where I am on a significant issue in my life right now. And I was just thinking this morning how it’s generally advised that until we feel good about a decision, then we should wait, until we do feel good about taking a certain action or making a certain decision. On the other hand, the challenge seems to be in knowing where to draw the line. At what point does that “waiting” become procrastinating, avoiding making a decision out of fear of failure, or otherwise repeating an old pattern?
Okay, now I keep seeing this little bird chasing a crow — today, yesterday — just keeping seeing this little winged one annoying the Crow. It’s actually kinda funny, lol… But because I keep seeing it, it’s gotta be trying to tell me something. Hmmm, maybe one of my patterns is allowing little things to bother me in a big way? Maybe :)
Here are some excerpts from the Hanged Man email I received this morning:
======================
“Finding yourself in such a dilemma can cause a state of
impasse or limbo where you really don’t know what to do for
the best. This brings me to The Hanged Man card, a card
that normally indicates the need to make some kind of self-
sacrifice, or indicates a need for you to give someone or
something up.
We all know how very difficult this can be! ;- )
How do you know what or who you should give up? Are you
considering giving up the right person or the right thing?
Are you looking at your situation from the right
perspective? Perhaps all you need to ‘give up’ is a certain
attitude you have towards someone or something.
The Hanged Man doesn’t always mean giving up something
material or giving up a certain person. It can mean giving
up inappropriate or negative attitudes or emotions that are
creating a state of impasse for you.
If you feel confused, or fearful of making the wrong choice
or decision, because of mixed emotions or powerful and
addictive attractions, you can focus or meditate on Tarot
readings to help guide you to an intuitive answer.
When The Hanged Man appears you can be pretty sure he’s
saying ‘you’ve got to give something or someone up in order
to move on, or at the very least try and look at your
situation from a fresh perspective’.
In releasing ourselves from a situation that has become
stale, neutral or indeed negative, we can create a new
freedom. Limbo-land, or a state where you are lost without
direction, is not a great place to be.”

“Limbo-land,” yep, that’s where I am right now :) But I’m gonna “hang in there” and endeavor to have peace about it, as directed :) I think the most challenging thing is trying to see this situation from a different perspective. But just having that spur to do so, just pondering the possibility that I might be repeating a pattern by looking at it the “old way,” hey, that’s a start ;)
Peace,
Dove
