By Dove, www.TarotwithLove.com  Found this little exercise here while blog surfing, so I thought I’d give it a go :)  It’s weird, I love books, have owned gazillions of them over the years.  I’m just not so good about reading them, lol  Seriously, I wouldn’t be without books, I still have bunches even after having to sell a few hundred on eBay and Amazon during my adventure in southern Oregon, when I had to really get “creative” to survive.  In fact, I feel without question that this was to be part of my learning experience there…

Also, with regard to reading books, my interest is primarily in the area of physical fitness, health and most especially metaphysics.  I have lotsa books on those topics.  I don’t so much read them as I read “at” them, bit and pieces, here and there.  But I have many books, mostly metaphysical, that are so filled with underlining, notes and dog-ears, that it’s clear I’ve read them through many times :)  And it also intrigues me that the woman who opened the door for me with all this “awakening” stuff, a psychic/teacher, told me during a potent reading and pivotal moment in my life, that I wouldn’t need to read books, that I would get what I needed “directly,” … an intuition kinda thing ;)  And it is interesting, the things that “come” to me, I often later see them in a book or see that others are talking about and embracing the very thing that I had gotten “directly.”
Anyway, after all that rambling, here we go…

=====================================

01. One book that changed your life

=====================================

Now I haven’t actually completed this book, lol, but the primary concept grabbed me, and has never let go.  And that is, that our emotions are potent, and that we create it all.  That’s pretty much the gist of the book.  Joy, use it for creating good things in your life :) and stop creating the icky stuff with all that fear.
“Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting” by Lynn Grabhorn

(subtitle: ”The astonishing power of feelings”)

================================================

And also this book, because even after I’d pushed through my fear and purchased a deck of Tarot cards, I let it sit by my bed for about six months, still afraid of it (per religious teachings)…until I came upon this book, and it gave me the courage to go further.  It made all the difference, the interpretations of the cards were much more positive than what I’d seen at that point…and I liked that a woman with a doctorate wrote it :)

“The Tarot Handbook” by Angeles Arrien

(subtitle: ”Practical Applications of Ancient Visual Symbols” … “Tarot symbols from a psychological, mythological and cross-cultural perspective’)
=======================================

Oh, I’m remembering some now :)

This one was very significant to my life.  I remember, OMG, it was such a joy to read.  It was like reading stuff I already knew…  I sooo loved this book.  It was the first “opening” for me.

“The Celestine Prophecy” by James Redfield

================================

And..

“The Language of Letting Go” by Melody Beattie

==============================

02. One book that you’ve read more than once

============================

I’ve never understood why people do this, lol… I don’t, not intentionally anyway.  Again, piecemeal is how I often read books.  In fact, I’ll often just pick up a book and ask it what I most need to learn from it in that moment, open it randomly and then drink in all the wisdom of it :)  I’m sure I’ve read most of my Tarot books several times, and counting.  I open them (and read! lol) daily.  I have several and I also regularly study the Tarot online, but I most often reach for these two Tarot books…

“Tarot, Plain and Simple” by Anthony Louis

“The Complete Book of Tarot Reversals” by Mary K. Greer

(also upright interpretations)

===================================

03. One book you’d want on a desert island

==============================

Hmm, at first glance, that’s a toughie, but then on second thought, it would have to be..

Tarot  :)  …  Yes, the Tarot is a book, the amazingly complex and often beautiful images speak volumes and it has no limitation from being bound ;)   I’d choose this “book” in a heartbeat, both for the entertainment of it as well as an incomparable tool for survival.

==================================

04. Two books that made you laugh

=================================

I must say, I’ve always been very strict with myself, in that I don’t generally buy books for pleasure so much as for the betterment of myself, and for the acquisition of knowledge that I deem worthy.  I’ve never really entertained the idea of taking the time with books for just the purpose of, well, entertainment.  It always seemed like a waste of time to me in the past, but I would now if I felt drawn to do so…I just haven’t so far, lol ;)   BUT, I do have this one book that I’ve read “at” over the years and it’s pretty funny — as well as informative, heh  And it is…

“How to Shit in the Woods” by Kathleen Meyer    (lol … it is funny)

==========================

I don’t have another, but here’s one that I have very much enjoyed reading “at” over the years.  The stories of real-life soulmate connections are awesome.  Amazing, truly amazing, synchronicities as to how many of these couples met and all.  Now I have read several of these stories more than once.  Fun stuff :)   (The author is Debbie Ford’s sister.  Debbie wrote a book I did read all the way through a bunch of years ago, called “The Dark Side of the Light Chasers” — featured on Oprah, as I recall.  I’d say that book had a significant impact on me, and the “Universe” gives it a big thumbs up.) But here’s the more fun book.

“Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Lover” by Arielle Ford

=================================

05. One book that made you cry

=================================

“I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou

Omg, I do love her writing.  Her, I would read for joy :) if I could just get myself to sit down and read more.  But the moment in this book that has stayed with me is the part where, as a young girl, she’s working for this woman who decides she doesn’t like Maya’s name, so the woman starts calling her by a different name, one the woman likes better.  Gawd, that got me, treating her like she was a dog or something.  I wanted to rip that woman’s head off… I allowed myself to feel Maya’s pain in that moment, yeah, it brought tears.

=======================================

06. One book that you wish had been written

==================================

How ’bout two…

“How Men Can Overcome Their Fear of Women…and True Love”

“What the Bible is Really Trying to Teach Us”

========================

07. One book that you wish had never been written

======================================

The person I copied this list from, put “The Bible” here and that’s a good choice, but even though those fearful interpretations have almost destroyed us, our world, there is truth in it, symbolic truth…  Even so, I can’t think of any other book that has been more damaging to us, so I’m going to put that as well.

The Bible

===================

08. Two books you’re currently reading

============================

Well, sort of…here and there :)

“On Writing Well” by William Zinsser

(subtitle:  “The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction”)

“Waking the Tiger, Healing Trauma” by Peter A. Levine

===================

09. One book you’ve been meaning to read

========================

Too many to list, but here’s a few that sit waiting for me in my bedroom…

“Painting from the Source” by Aviva Gold

(subtitle: “Awakening the Artist’s Soul in Everyone”)

“The Feeling Soul” by Mark Linden O’Meara

(subtitle: A Roadmap to Healing and Living”)

“Energy Medicine” by Donna Eden

“Witch Crafting” by Phyllis Curott

(subtitle:  “A spiritual guide to making magic”)

I’ve read her “Book of Shadows,” which I loved and have been meaning to read this one for a while now.  She’s an uptown New York City attorney, and voted one of the “Ten Gutsiest Women of the Year” in 1999 by Jane Magazine and was a finalist for the Walter Cronkite Faith and Freedom Award in 2000.  I think she’s awesome, and I love the way she writes.

==============================

10. Okay, I’m gonna try this taggin thing, but since I’ve been getting the number 3, I’ll do 3 :)

    Dove I’m all quivery and squiggley. I came by to leave a comment on your last post, which I’d read yesterday, and saw you’d written this one. I started to read it, and didn’t know yet that you’d tagged me for this!
    Here’s why I’m quivery: Well, we have some reading tastes in common, which shouldn’t be too surprising. The Lynn Grabhorn book explains things well, I think. I’ve read “The Celestine Prophesy” (loved it!) and have read works of Maya Angelou (her poem commissioned for President Clinton’s first inauguration made me cry) and Donna Eden, too (loved, as well.)
    Angeles Arrien was my Tarot teacher’s teacher. And my teacher was Mary K. Greer!
    I’d better go do my list soon. I still owe you two lists (I have been musing upon them), but since you actually tagged me this time (you sweetie!) I’ll do this one first. Peace.

    LOL @ “quivery and squiggley” Hmmm, it seems you and I have a lot of synchronicity goin’ on. Very cool ;)

    Dove,

    Your list has a lot of interesting titles! Like you I have a habit of piece-mealing books, and it’s rare I read one cover to cover. :)

    I’m glad you did this - I found your comparison of the Tarot to a book fascinating. Makes sense!

    I’m putting another challenge out there, for any who care to take it - that the “tagger” read at least one book on at least one person’s list that they tagged.

    :)

    Hi Jerome, I’m glad I’m not the only one that does the piecemeal thing :) Hey, that’s definitely a challenging challenge, heh, and I noted your list had some interesting books too.

    I just keep adding books to my “To-Read” list. The Amazon wishlist is good for that :) Sometimes I’ll hone in on a book when the Universe puts it in front of me several times. There’ve been a few books over the years that I’ve been given potent “nudges” toward. With those, I very uncharacteristically devour them, cover to cover. Here’s two of them, they both really spurred a “shift” in me. (Both rated highly on Amazon)

    “Phoenix Rising” by Mary Summer Rain

    “The Paradigm Conspiracy: How Our Systems of Government, Church, School, and Culture Violate Our Human Potenial” by Denise Breton and Christopher Largent (married couple)

    Gees, I was writing my comment and all of the sun everything disappeared…I’ll be back writing it, again…I like this post..

    See ya in a bit…

  6. dovelove said:

    Ah man, it is such a drag when that happens! Every time it happens to me, I always vow it will never happen again…but then, after a while, I forget :) …and again allow myself to participate in that highly risky behavior of not saving while doing a lengthy post. *sigh*

    Hey Frenchy girl, you are so adorable with that, “all of the sun” lol That is so cute, a highly lovely “erreur de typographie” ;) (I looked that up, hehe)

    All of the Sun indeed :) Ya’ know, one might take that not as an error at all, but a message that all happens for the best, for some good reason, for some Sun reason ;) Sun = “God/dess” in the Tarot

    Hugs,
    Dove

    Gees, Frenchy is losing it…I meant ”all of the sudden”..I actually love ur last paragraph, DoveTarot, not to lose my face this is a good try..loll!!

    Well, going back to where I left, If u may…First of all, I thank u so much for tagging me (that’s so sweet!, I do appreciate it a lot)..I am like u I don’t read as much as I intend to but I do love books…Actually, borrowing them at the library is not the best option for me as I prefer to buy and keep the books as a reference after reading them…

    The book that changed my life is ”The Road Less Traveled” by Scott Peck…It was like a revelation and the beginning of my spiritual journey…I have also read the trilogy of ”The Celestine Prophecy” but I have only enjoyed the first one, really…

    I never read a book more than once but I often go back and read extracts..So, this one of the reasons why I like to buy and keep the books..

    I would bring my dictionaries with me on a desert island..

    I don’t read to laugh, really.. I read to learn..I have a pretty serious approach to my readings..

    If there are books that made me cry must be the ones which helped me to face my own deep emotional wounds…

    Why does our society, still, not focusing on what matters?????

    I would say anything ”Porn” as they are made of bad taste..Not artsy at all…

    I am currently reading ”Guérir”de David Servan-Schreiber…And, I am also flipping thru Natural Cures ”They” Don’t Want You To Know About” by Kevin Trudeau; ”Le Succès Selon Jack” de Jack Canfield; ”Le Grand Dictionnaire Des Malaises Et Des Maladies”de Jacques Martel; ”Healing The Gerson Way” by Charlotte Gerson with Beata Bishop…

    Finally, the ones that I am meaning to read are ”Conversation With God #3” by Neale Donald Walsch; Natural Cures ”They” Don’t Want You To Know About” by Kevin Trudeau; ”The Law Of Attraction” by Hicks; ”Your Hands Can Heal You” (Pranic Healing Energy) by by Master Stephen Co, Eric B. Robins, and John Merryman; ”Tout Commence Après” de Jean Morzelle and ”Le Premier et Dernier Miracle” de Antoine Filissiadis…

    I guess I have said it all..loll!!!!

    Paix mon amie…(Peace my English Girl, Ya! Yo!)

    A dictionary, hey, that would be a good one, I love words…and there’d be plenty of time to learn a lot of new words on that island, lol I aspire to greatly improve my vocabulary, I’m bad about using certain words way too much — like “amazing” and “wonderful” and “stuff” and “thing” lol

    I looked up the “G” word, heh, so the books name is just “Cure”? You have a lot of health and healing books, just like me.

    I started reading the first “Conversations with God” book a bunch of years ago, but stopped reading it after noticing that “God” seemed to have an “attitude” lol ;) At that point, I felt like, if there was a separate “God” from us, then he/she would be so loving and kind that it would make our hearts ache just to read his/her words. But I do think there’s a lot of wisdom and truth in what the author’s conveying.

    Even so, the “God” he’s talking to is his own Higher Self. And we can all do that, he just has a particularly potent connection, but what he “receives” in this way can also be influenced by his own personal bias or beliefs. That applies to all of us.

    What I’ve come to learn is that our Higher Self or the “God” within us or the “Universe” that’s conveying a message to us doesn’t speak with words. It’s an energy that somehow our brain translates, or understands, and it becomes symbols, or it comees through as our language and the words we personally would use.

    So it’s the energy Of “God,” but it comes out in our words, our understanding/translation of the energy that’s being sent to us, which can be and often is very accurate. The “attitude” of which I speak above, no doubt, is a reflection of the author’s own mode of communication. That doesn’t mean it isn’t truth though.

    But my point is, we can all have “conversations with God” :) And I believe that “direct line” to our Higher Self (”God”) is opening, and will continue to become more clear as we “awaken.” And the main reason our connection is so blocked and the reason we have such difficulty manifesting our desires is all about one thing. Fear.

    The biblical warning about not fearing is one of the best directives in that old book.

    And yet, the irony is that religion has infused us with so much fear, and again THAT is the very thing that BLOCKS our “god-ness,” our true power, our ability to have faith in and to deeply love (”worship”) ourselves, the “God” within us.

    A fearless (peaceful) heart is a powerful heart. It can create miracles, it can “hear” the Higher Wisdom without any need for a guru or church or religion. So it doesn’t take much pondering to see why the organization of religion would need to keep us fearful.

    Peace,
    Dove

    DoveTarot,

    Ur are right though anyone who is kind of connected can have a conversation with God…and this particular communication it is more about feeling it than anything else..This ”God” might have an attittude but nevertheless I prefer his perception way more than the way that the majority of people in our society think and/or act…Anyway, we are manipulated all the way by power, money and the list goes on and on….

    ”I felt like, if there was a separate “God” from us, then he/she would be so loving and kind that it would make our hearts ache just to read his/her words.”

    I agree with u and from what u are saying it reminds me about a guess invited to a TV Show who was talking about his after death experience and the way he was explaining it, I cried like crazy cause it sounded so beautiful…I must read this book, ”Tout Commence Après” de Jean Morzelle and it would definitely be the one which would me make me cry and also help me reconcile with death..

    Paix mon amie…
