Quickie: Fun with the Queen of Swords
December 18, 2007
By Dove, www.TarotwithLove.com The Queen of Swords is more cool than I thought. I usually only liked seeing her for her honesty. That is, she is invariably a clear-cut “yes” or “truth” card in asking yes/no questions (just like most of the sword court cards).
Fun isn’t something I usually associate with the Queen of Swords. But ever since my friend, Grace, commented about it being one of her favorite cards, it seems the Universe has been trying to show me that this queen isn’t so bad, that she’s even pretty darn good ;) And I knew she was good, strong and smart (achieved through rough times), but I always tend to associate her with seriousness and lack of emotion and, well, those rough times – and especially the un-fun process of “cutting” away from a relationship that isn’t working, and, well-yeah, being alone… She’s the “widow,” and some older meanings put her in a very not so favorable light. Generally, if “ill-dignified,” or she comes up reversed, she’d be seen as kind of, er, a be o-tch, a very not-nice person ;)
The other day, I started thinking it would be fun to ask the cards for representations of certain things. Like the first one that came to mind was, what card would represent a lot of laughter. I thought maybe the Three of Cups, since it often represents a lot of joy, getting together with others, celebrating.
I’ve mentioned that I have Tarot decks all around my apartment, I like to have them within arm’s reach of my most frequented spots :) With that laughter question in my mind, I walked up to my Goddess Tarot deck by my computer. Didn’t even shuffle, as I often don’t, and I said, “Show me a card that would represent a lot of laughter.” Again, I just cut the cards, placed the bottom half on top, and drew the top card. It was the Queen of Swords :) I immediately thought, “Oh, that can’t be right.” lol ;) In fact, I would have thought she would represent just the opposite.
And then it popped into my head that I had read somewhere that the Queen of Swords had a great sense of humor :) And as that thought came, I cut the deck again to get a card for more clarity on this. It was the the Six of Wands. Well, that is a very positive card, a card of success and celebrating success (usually someone riding a horse through a victory parade, the rider being the victor). Me and the Tarot are tight ;) … so to me that was affirming my thought about the sense of humor and this Queen. The Tarot was, with this card, saying, “That’s right, girlie.” lol ;)
My logical mind wanted more confirmation of the truth, so I went and rifled through my multitude of Tarot books to see if I could find the “sense of humor” thing. And sure enough, there it was in one of the best books ever written on the Tarot, “Learn the Tarot” by Joan Bunning. Here are her key words on the Queen of Swords: Honest, Astute, Forthright, Witty, Experienced
She elaborates further under each of these words.
Under “Witty,” she has,
“has a delightful sense of humor”
“diffuses awkward situations with a funny remark”
“never takes anything too seriously”
“laughs at everything including him or herself”
So there ya’ go… She’s good at making people laugh. So my beloved Tarot was indeed showing me, in its special way, ”Lotsa laughter.” :)
Hugs,
Dove

LOLOLLLLLLLL
YEAH!! Ill-dignified, there’s definitely the possibility of beocthdom.*ahem* :)
VENUS is the Queen of Swords (Arrows) in the Lover’s Tarot….I wish you could see her….Thank you for emphasizing the importance of a sense of humor and a joyfullness born of experiencing the hard times (as opposed to, say, a hardening). Laughter plays an important aspect, I think. If one is willing to be honest with oneself ABOUT oneself - there is definitely the need for a good dose of humor:
I like to think that it was her wit as well as her intellect that brought her through those tough life experiences: in the end, an honest and reliably ally. She may not be overly mushy or emotional, but her feelings run very deep.

:)
Well, I gotta admit I’m a lot like the Queen of Swords too, maybe that’s why I’ve let her spook me in the past. I know this is gonna be hard to believe, but I can be that ill-dignified version on oh-so-rare an occasion, LOL! ;) But I think my sense of humor is one of the best things about me, I loooove to laugh, love to play :)
It was also one of the things I liked so much about my previous guy, he could be sooo funny (Aries), when he wasn’t being a jerk ;) But yeah, I could see he and I being like Roseanne and Dan (the comedy show) — I loved how they played, and we kinda had that. To me, a relationship isn’t worth squat without that joking and playing. And people who take themselves too seriously are very not-fun.
Yep, the Queen of Swords is a fine and fun woman :) But all the Queens have good stuff, and no one is really exactly like one of them. Nah, we’re a delicious blend of all of them ;)

Dove
