By Dove, www.TarotwithLove.com  Hmm, the first listing on my blogroll page grabbed me again today — about the Crow and the Lynx.  Two totems I am very familiar with.  The topic of the blog is regarding totems that represent “seers.”  I’m surprised the Owl wasn’t mentioned as well.

In reading that blog, I thought to myself, “The crow is my bro’” :)  I said that in a blog a day or so ago.  I’m hesitant to share my prolific and profound experiences in this regard, but I could write for days about totems :)  I adore animals, especially the winged ones — many winged totems with me.

Before I knew anything of totems or metaphysics, the Owl kinda “came” for me :)  I was knee-deep in the typical American life, worked for a large company, had just bought my “dream home” …  One day in said home, on a nice sunny spring morning, something caught my eye through the window.  An owl sitting on a fence post in the back.  Just sitting there, facing the back of my house, facing me.  For some reason, I looked to the left, and there was another owl sitting on a branch in a tree nearby…  It stunned me, I didn’t think owls ever came out in the light of day like that.  But I loved the sight of them, I’ve always loved birds.

I didn’t have a clue at that point the significance of their presence…  My little illusion of ”normalcy” — my life – began to crumble after that.  Thank goodness.  It seems it was time for me to get on my true path…

Several years later, I discovered that the Owl and the Crow are my main animal totems.  Lotsa stories…which I may share in a book someday with all  my other metaphysical adventures :) and here as I feel drawn to do so.  The most poignant, which also ties these two totems with my beginning to use the Tarot, I wrote an article about.  It was published a few years ago in the Sedona Journal.  If you like, you can read this article at my Tarot site, www.TarotwithLove.com

What has kept me coming back for more in this metaphysical adventure is the synchronicity of it all — it’s truly amazing, and there’s absolutely no discounting the significance of it once you experience it again and again.  Read the above-mentioned story and you’ll see what I mean :)  Here’s more on this one…  I was nudged toward the study of animal totems much the same way as the Tarot.  I can still remember the day I shuffled my totem cards for the first time, wondering what card the Universe would most want to show me — this very first time.  I cut the cards, and drew the top card.  It was the Owl :)

I’ve used and loved my totem cards for years now.  I remember one day asking these cards what my greatest strength was, and I drew the Lynx (”knower of secrets”).  Ya’ see all of these, the Crow, the Owl, the Lynx, they’re all about psychic ability and “magic.” (Note, not all totems are about those things, lol…  Read up on the topic and you’ll quickly see that there are many that are much more, well, ”tame” ones, hehe)

Interestingly, my birthday also calculates (via numerology) to the 11, and then the 2.  That’s considered one’s “Life Path” number.  The 2 represents the archetype called the “High Priestess” in the Tarot.  She’s the psychic in the Tarot, in life, in each of us.  But the fact that my birthday calculates to this number is an indicator that this is my “Life Path.”

There’s much more (synchronicity and overlapping like this), but at this time, this is all I feel compelled to share.  But even with just that, you have to admit that ongoing synchronous message is intriguing :)

Now I realize “magic” sounds all lofty and even scary to some (and the psychic thing too for most people), but it’s not about “hocus-pocus,” and in reality the entirety of our existence here is magic.  Imagine IF that were true.  It is :)  And “The Secret” (movie) is a little opening for the “masses” to begin to see and know this truth — for our ultimate freedom and re-empowerment.

We are magical beings living in a magical world — it’s all “magic.”  Unfortunately most of us are blind to this truth because we’ve had our own power used against us, we’ve lived and breathed mediocrity (and have been brainwashed to believe this is our true “reality”) – to keep us enslaved, keep us feeling powerless — and that seems to be the truth for only one reason.  We believe it — and therein is our magic.  “Believe and it shall be so.”  Amazingly enough, that’s an absolute truth.

We are, among other potent archetypes, referenced as the “Magician” in the Tarot.  But if a “Magician” deeply believes (is trained to believe) he’s a wretched, lowly, powerless one, poof, so it is.  We have to change our beliefs to get out of the mess we’re in.  There are many, like me :) who are awakening to this truth and it seems we are being guided to help others to see this truth, to help them to “awaken” as well — just as we ourselves are endeavoring to overcome the brainwashing of it all.  No easy task :)

But I digress, I’m bad about that, lol ;)  Anyway, ya’ might try opening to your own magic, just a little by considering this animal totems thing.  Notice animals that come into your life.  They don’t have to actually be there.  You will generally keep seeing a certain animal if the Universe is trying to give you a strong message with it.  You might see the animal (including reptiles, insects and the like) in the physical, on the television, in a magazine/book, in your dreams (and “visions” — seeing something in your mind’s eye), hear someone say it (someone talking about a lion at the zoo or whatever)…  In whatever way it comes to you, pay attention.  Animals are potently magical (as is all of Nature) and when one keeps coming to you, the Universe or “God” is speaking to you :)  Cool, eh? heh

And you can see the truth of it very quickly by looking up the different animals to see what message they represent.  The classic book on this topic is “Animal-Speak” by Ted Andrews.  I’ve had mine for a bunch of years, it’s totally dog-earred and the margins are all written up with my experiences over the years.  Fun to go back and read the magic, as it happened, as the truth of the messages unfolded.

We all have several animal totems with us, that energy is actually part of us — those animals recognize that kinship…  One way to know the ones that are with us is to notice which animals (again, can be insects too) that we feel a strong resonation with, that we love, that we are drawn to, that seem to be drawn to us…

Enjoy discovering and awakening to this little bit of your profound magic :)

Peace,
Dove
